An LG code is interpreted together with the washer type and its full model number. Front-load, top-load, and SideKick pedestal units each need their own documentation.
First choose the appliance showing the message
On a washer pedestal column, check which display is lit. The lower drawer has its own drum and locks: one of its alerts does not necessarily describe the main washer door. Photograph the message without changing letters into numbers, and find that unit’s model on its nameplate.
The front-load matches in this index are based on the LG USA table. It is a reference covering multiple generations; confirm the numerical aliases and installed features in your manual. For top-load models, select the documentation for that type of appliance before applying an explanation.
Identify what is preventing it from continuing
- Water: IE and its fill aliases, OE and its drain aliases, FE for overfill, and PE for level sensing are separate inquiries.
- Movement: UE for imbalance is different from LE for motor drive and vS/uS/u5 for vibration detection.
- Locks: dE front-door codes have a different path from the SideKick drawer and lid locks.
- Dispensing: OPn and the Ed family only apply to appliances with ezDispense.
A lit display may also indicate a normal function
CL identifies control lock; tcL indicates tub clean; Cd can appear after the drying phase. On ezDispense, dcL appears during nozzle cleaning: check which cycle you activated before treating it as a malfunction. Do not copy dosages, button combinations, or times from a similar display.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CL indicate a malfunction or child lock?
On LG models that document that indication, CL refers to child lock or control lock. If it is turned off correctly and the controls still do not respond, that lack of response needs to be evaluated separately.
Do SideKick codes mean the same thing as on a front-load washer?
Not necessarily. SideKick has an outer drawer and an inner lid, while a conventional front-load washer has a different lock layout. Even when the letters match, check the manual for the unit showing the message.
Can I interpret E03 as OE on any LG appliance?
No. The front-load table consulted groups E03 with OE, but that does not prove the equivalence applies to all LG models, markets, or generations.
What model details do I need before looking up the code?
The full model number from the nameplate, the load type, and, if there is a separate pedestal, the model of the affected unit. A photo of the panel helps preserve capitalization, digits, and suffixes.
If the full message does not appear in your model’s manual, keep it exactly as shown and contact LG support before changing any settings.
