CL alert on LG washing machines: child lock activated

CL is the child lock or control lock on LG appliances that use that indicator. Clearing CL restores the controls, but it does not force open a door held shut by the cycle.

The official LG help describes CL as a panel status. The function may be assigned to a key or a combination; pressing buttons from another model at random can change other settings.

Locate the lock function

  1. Look on the panel for the lock symbol and the full model reference for the washer.
  2. Open the child lock or control lock section in the relevant manual. Check whether it requires the unit to be on or in a specific cycle state.
  3. Use only the key or combination and the press duration specified in that manual.
  4. Check whether CL disappears and whether you can change an option that is allowed at that moment.

If an option cannot be changed in the middle of the program, that does not necessarily mean CL is still active. Also do not confuse control lock with a physically locked door: the drum may still contain water, heat, or motion.

If CL has disappeared but the panel still does not respond to allowed operations, consult control troubleshooting. Repeatedly unplugging the machine does not replace the intended deactivation.

Use the symbol and the manual for the installed panel; a combination published for another LG model does not confirm how to disable yours.
