How to Check Whether a Weighted Blanket Can Be Machine Washed

A weighted blanket requires checking the item’s weight, its fill, and the limits set by both manufacturers. Whether the drum closes or the dry weight is below its rated capacity does not settle the full acceptance decision.

Identify how it is constructed

Separate the removable cover and the inner blanket if the design allows it. Find out whether the weight comes from fabric, microbeads, or another fill, and check the seams that contain it. Do not wash an item that could release its weight.

Restrictions differ even within a brand: Bearaby distinguishes machine-washable knit models from other care requirements. That documentation does not authorize applying its sequence to all weighted blankets.

Check the machine and the end of the process

  1. Read the label on the set and note the item’s dry weight.
  2. Check with the appliance manufacturer whether that individual load is allowed and which cycle applies.
  3. Verify how the water should be distributed and removed, without inventing a speed per kilogram.
  4. Confirm that you have the approved drying method before starting the wash.

Do not apply rules for regular blankets to a concentrated-weight item. Also, do not add clothing as a counterweight without explicit instructions.

If it cannot be washed at home

Look for a service that can accept that specific item and complete its drying. At a self-service laundromat, ask the operator to confirm: a large-drum machine may still exclude that weight or may not allow it to be distributed.

Acceptance of a weighted blanket must refer to that specific item and that specific machine, including when using a laundromat.
