A waterproof garment needs approval from both its manufacturer and the washer model. If the machine excludes it, do not try to make it compatible by lowering spin speed or using a bag.
Resolve compatibility before detergent
Check the restrictions for water-retaining items and the specific cycle, if there is one. Samsung warns, for products under its Hong Kong support , about injury and damage from vibrations with certain waterproof materials. This warning applies regionally and should be checked against the exact manual, since not all machines offer the same capabilities.
Prepare an approved load
- Check the label, the condition of the laminate, sealed seams, and closures.
- Prepare zippers, flaps, and straps as instructed by the garment manufacturer.
- Select the approved product and avoid excluded additives.
- Follow the washer's specific load, cycle, and spin settings.
- Complete the approved rinse and drying before assessing the surface.
Cleaning and water repellency are not the same
Surface dirt and loss of the beading effect may call for different decisions. GORE-TEX distinguishes between washing and reactivating the water-repellent treatmentand sets exceptions for specific constructions. Do not copy its temperatures, products, or drying instructions to all membranes.
Reactivating or reapplying a finish is only appropriate if the instructions for that garment allow it. Do not add fabric softener or a waterproofing treatment because of the way water beads without checking compatibility; likewise, do not assume a damaged membrane is just dirt that another wash could remove.
Check water repellency after the permitted care, and only then consider any additional treatment allowed by the garment.
