Before leaving the washer idle, empty it, complete any pending cleaning, and let accessible areas dry. Shutting off the water, disconnecting it, and treating automatic dispensers should follow the model manual.
Preparation before an absence
Do not leave a damp load or partially rinsed products in place. Finish any needed cleaning in time for everything to dry, remove visible residue, and make sure any removed parts are returned to their position. The storage space should meet the appliance's environmental conditions.
Check automatic dispensing separately. In the product family described by Whirlpool for Load & Go, the manufacturer asks that the reservoirs be cleaned and emptied before extended downtime. Other systems may require a different purge; use the automatic reservoirs and lines path or the TwinDos path when appropriate.
Follow the storage instructions to shut off the supply and isolate power. If a ventilation function is active, finish its operation according to the manual before disconnecting it. Keep the door or lid in a position that allows drying without creating a safety hazard or forcing the closure.
Check when you return
- Look for moisture, fresh water marks, unusual odors, or signs of pests around the unit.
- Inspect the visible cord and hoses. Make sure the connections have not been moved during the absence.
- Confirm that filters, caps, and reservoirs are still installed and that there are no textiles or objects inside.
- If there is no damage and the installation is correct, restore water and power according to the manual. Run the return check or cleaning procedure it specifies and monitor filling and draining.
If the appliance was wet because of flooding, has rodents inside, or has electrical damage, request an evaluation before plugging it in. An empty cycle does not prove that it is safe to operate.
Storage and transport are different tasks
Leaving it in place does not automatically require preparing for a move. If you are going to move it, consult washing machine transport. When the location may freeze, use freeze preparation before storage.
The first check after the absence should be stoppable if droplets, new noises, or a draining failure appear; do not schedule it to run unsupervised.
