Maytag washer HC warning: reversed water connections

HC on documented Maytag HE top-loaders indicates that the hot and cold water are connected to the opposite inlet ports.

Identifying both connections

This meaning comes from the manufacturer documentation for dual-inlet appliances. Check the appliance labels and follow the hoses to each faucet. Color or left-and-right position does not replace that identification.

If you confirm they are reversed, stop the machine and shut off the water supply before disconnecting anything. Correct only the connections that the manual allows the user to handle and that you can reach without moving the appliance or putting tension on the cord. Keep a container ready for residual water and leave the seals in place.

After repositioning the hoses

Turn on the faucets and check the connections before the indicated test wash. If drops appear, do not continue: correct the installation or ask for help. If one inlet is not supplying water, that is a different check from swapping the inlets; see hot or cold water failures.

Persistent HC with correct connections requires service. Do not apply this interpretation to a Maytag single-inlet model or to another platform without confirming it in the manual.

A photo of the routing of both hoses helps the installer verify the correction.
