F5 E2 on a documented Maytag front-load washer indicates that the door lock does not complete. A trapped garment or a load pressing against the latch are the first checks.
Check the fit with the machine stopped
The manufacturer documentation places the problem in the front door latch. Pause or cancel according to your panel and wait for it to allow opening. Move sleeves, drawstrings, and clothing edges that cross the gasket out of the way. Remove some of the load if it is pushing on the door, then close it again without slamming.
The latch may seem engaged and still not be recognized. Note whether you hear an attempt to lock, whether the alert appears immediately, and whether the cycle has started to fill with water. Do not insert objects into the housing to simulate the latch closing.
Retry and bypass
Use only the cancel and restart sequence in the manual. If it will not open, there is water inside, or the latch remains stuck, follow the guide for door, lid, and lock before trying to reach the laundry.
If F5 E2 repeats with a free-moving latch, contact service. The lid warnings on an HE top-load model are listed separately in the Maytag index; they are not resolved by transferring instructions from a front-load washer.
A door that needs force to close still has a problem, even if the message disappears briefly.
