Maytag washer OL warning: load too large

OL on a compatible Maytag top-load HE washer indicates that the load is too large. Remove some laundry, following the specific capacity for the cycle.

What to check before starting again

The manufacturer documentation explains that an overfill detection can end with the draining of water and detergent. Wait for the normal opening, reduce the load, and check the cycle status before dosing again.

If you do not know whether draining is complete, do not add another dose automatically. The manual explains how to continue in that situation. Wet laundry can also still hold product even if no water is visible in the drum.

Capacity depends on the cycle

Use the dry-laundry limit shown in the table for the selected cycle. The appliance’s overall maximum does not apply to every cycle. Bulky items can prevent the load from moving even without reaching many kilograms.

After removing laundry, spread it out loosely. If it fits properly but forms an uneven lump, check the Maytag imbalance guide. The guide to load size and distribution explains both conditions.

If OL returns with acceptable loads, report the cycle and clothing type to service. Do not repeat tests by adding and removing laundry to try to hide it.

Reducing an overload restores space for movement; packing it tightly inside the drum does not fix it.
