Error F9 E1 or drn alert on Maytag: drain problems

On front-load Maytag models, F9 E1 indicates that draining is taking too long. On top-load HE models, drn signals an improper drain; installation and filter access depend on the model.

Trapped water and household drain

According to the manufacturer documentation, a restriction in the path or suds can delay the outflow. Check whether the hose is kinked, whether the issue started when it was connected under a sink, and whether the household drain is also clogged. Do not infer pump condition from noise alone.

Cleaning only the user-accessible filter

Check the manual before opening a cover: some designs do not allow access to the pump from the outside. If there is a user filter, stop and unplug the washer safely, cool the water, and prepare a container. Drain it through the specified method, slowly, before removing the filter.

Reinstall it without any residue on the gasket and check that it closes properly before using it again. Thedrain filter cleaning guide covers this preparation in detail. A discharge height copied from another setup can make the problem worse; use the one specified for your Maytag.

If it still holds water after the accessible checks, stop starting cycles and request a diagnosis. For drn, clearly state that it is a top-load HE model.

If detergent has built up in the clothes, do not add a full new dose just because you canceled the cycle.
