Open the drain filter only if the manual allows maintenance access and after dealing with any retained water. Let the appliance cool and isolate the power before removing the plug.
Before turning the filter
Locate the access point in the manual. Not all machines have a front cover or a removable filter. If the drum still contains water, first follow the emergency draining procedure for the model; opening the filter suddenly can spill the contents onto the floor.
Prepare a container underneath and some cloths. The LG pump filter guide places the preliminary drain before removing the filter and warns that water may still come out when it is opened. Water after a hot cycle should be allowed to cool before handling.
Cleaning the accessible assembly
- With the washer empty, stopped, and disconnected from power, carry out the residual drainage according to its design.
- Release the filter following the documented opening method. If it is stuck, do not use levers or apply extra force.
- Remove visible objects and lint from the filter. Wash it using the allowed method, without deforming its mesh or structure.
- Clean the accessible seating surface and inspect the gasket. Do not insert fingers or tools into the pump mechanism.
- Reinstall the filter, drain plug, and fasteners exactly as the manual says. A tilted seal or lint on the gasket can leak water.
Check after reassembly
Once everything is closed, restore service and perform the check specified by the manufacturer, watching the area you worked on. If drops appear, stop using the machine and inspect the assembly only with the appliance isolated and the water dealt with; do not tighten while the machine is running.
If the drainage fault persists, the debris removed does not confirm a pump failure or rule one out. For lint filtering inside the tub, see the lint trap; it is a different part.
A plug that will not open or does not stay watertight needs inspection. Replacing the pump cannot be inferred from the condition of the filter.
