The lint filter may be a mesh or a cartridge inside the tub, but some models do not have a removable collector. Check the manual to confirm whether yours has one before looking for a part to remove.
Identify the collection system
Names like lint catcher or magic filter may describe similar collectors, but they do not guarantee the same mounting.Samsung notes that not all of its top-load washers include a lint filter and refers you to the manual to verify the model.
A pump filter in the drain path is another part. If the machine dries, the air filters in the washer-dryer also require different maintenance.
Remove the material before rinsing
- Finish the wash cycle, wait until everything has stopped completely, and prepare access with the power disconnected as directed in the manual.
- Release the collector using the designated latch. Do not pull on a fixed mesh or on a cover whose function you have not identified.
- Open only the authorized parts and collect the fibers for disposal. Avoid sending them back into the tub.
- Clean the mesh using the specified method. A brush that is too stiff can tear it; do not stretch it to remove buildup.
- Check for tears, warping, and proper closure. Follow the model’s drying condition and reinstall it until it is secured.
Designs without a serviceable collector
If the manual describes it as self-cleaning, follow its instructions and continue with the rest of the appliance care. The absence of a removable filter does not authorize you to open the agitator or add a mesh bag in its place.
For a buildup of pet hair, combine collector maintenance with physically removing whatever remains visible in the machine. Filtration accessories require their own compatibility; do not assume they are suitable just because they fit inside.
If a collector no longer fits or its mesh is torn, stop forcing it and look for the compatible replacement part. Its locking method is part of the design.
