Clean the washing machine water inlet screens

The inlet screens are part of the water supply. To clean them, shut off the water and confirm whether the manufacturer allows removal; do not puncture or permanently remove them to increase flow.

Locate the correct filter

The manual may place a screen in a hose connection, at the machine inlet, or in a separate access assembly. Do not confuse it with the drain filter. Also identify whether the washer has one or multiple inlets.

LG says to close the water supplies and disconnect the unit before cleaning inlet filters. Its specific removal should not be applied to press-fit screens or valves of a different design.

Access and cleaning

  1. Stop the washer, isolate the power, and close the corresponding supply valves. Make sure the electrical area stays dry.
  2. Prepare the disconnection described in the manual and a container for the water left in the hose. If you cannot isolate the water or reach the connection safely, ask for help.
  3. Inspect the screen and seals. Remove the part only if it is described as removable; do not pry it out with a tool on a hunch.
  4. Remove sediment using the approved method, without deforming the screen or using needles to open its holes.
  5. Reinstall the filter and seals, and reconnect without cross-threading the fitting. Restore the supply according to the manual and check for leaks before washing.

If it fills with debris again

Note whether it started after an outage or plumbing work and whether there is sediment at other points. Cleaning the same screen repeatedly does not fix the source of the water. The water quality guide helps separate dissolved minerals from particles.

See supply hoses and connections for a damaged connection. If the screens are clean and the washer still will not fill, continue with water inlet troubleshooting, without electrically testing the valve as part of cleaning.

Do not run the washer without the screens required by its design. A damaged screen requires a compatible part and the proper installation.
