Remove Pet Hair Left in the Washing Machine

Physically remove visible hair before washing again. Check the drum, folds, and any traps present, because running several cycles does not guarantee that a buildup of fibers will be removed from the system.

Locate where it has gotten stuck

With the machine empty and stopped, inspect the drum surface, the front gasket, and any intended filters. Disconnect power before removing it by hand. Do not put your hand into a spinning basket or push hair toward the openings.

Maytag includes removing loose hair and wiping with a cloth in its guide for restoring the machine. Its product instructions should not be transferred to another model without checking compatibility.

Remove it by area

  1. Use a soft, compatible cloth on accessible surfaces and collect the hair for disposal. Clean the cloth outside the tub before continuing.
  2. If there is a front gasket, checkits folds without stretching it or inserting tools.
  3. Empty and clean thelint trap when present, following its opening mechanism.
  4. If the model’s maintenance instructions indicate it, check thedrain filter after safely draining any retained water.
  5. With all parts reassembled, run only the rinse or authorized maintenance cycle and check whether any visible hair remains.

Accessories and persistent buildup

Do not insert floating traps, sponges, or objects to collect hair without verifying that they are compatible with the appliance. A installed special filter has its own design and maintenance requirements; it cannot be replaced by a solution that merely fits inside the drum.

If the machine does not drain or the hair reappears in large amounts from an area that is not accessible, stop repeating cycles and request service. Fiber cleaning does not require scented additives or vinegar by default.

If the hair also remains on the clothes, seelint, hair, and residue on clothes after washing. Removing fibers from textiles is a different task from restoring an empty machine.

Before a different load, make sure traps and folds do not still have visible buildup from the previous one.
