Sud or Sd Warning on Whirlpool Washers: Excess Suds

Sud or Sd warns of excess suds in compatible Whirlpool washers. The washer may extend rinses and limit spin while it tries to remove them.

Allow time for suds correction

On front-load models, the manufacturer documentation describes pauses and extra rinses. If the machine follows that routine without leaks, do not add detergent or keep canceling repeatedly to speed up the cycle. The length of time depends on how much still needs to be rinsed out and on the cycle.

Check the full dose

Make sure the detergent is HE when the manual requires it. Also count additives and products used to pre-treat clothes: the amount in the dispenser is not always everything that goes into the drum. A more concentrated product, softer water, or less laundry may require a smaller dose.

If you switched detergents, compare the instructions on both packages; reusing the previous measure can cause the new one to be overdosed. The guide to detergent amount helps you adjust the dose based on load and soil level.

Suds and restricted draining

Check the drain hose: a kink or restriction can accompany the warning. If, after correcting the product and dose, it stops again or holds water, contact support. Do not pour in oil, extra fabric softener, or homemade mixtures to make the bubbles go away.

Consider the next wash with the corrected dose; clearing Sud does not tell you how much detergent is still in the clothes.
