HC Notice on Whirlpool Washer: Reversed Water Connections

HC indicates reversed hot and cold water connections on documented Whirlpool top-load HE models. It applies only to units that use both inlets.

Check the route of each hose

The manufacturer documentation places HC at the end of the cycle. Before changing anything, identify the home hot water outlet, the cold outlet, and the washer inlet labels. Follow each hose from one end to the other; its color alone does not confirm the connection.

  1. Stop the appliance and close both faucets.
  2. If the manual allows correcting those connections and you can reach them without moving the unit, prepare a container for residual water.
  3. Connect each supply to its inlet according to the model diagram, keeping the approved gaskets and hoses.
  4. Turn the water supply back on and check that the joints do not leak before the allowed test cycle.

If you cannot identify a connection point or access requires moving a heavy or stacked installation, ask the installer for help. The guide on a hot or cold water supply that is not working distinguishes a reversed connection from a lack of supply.

HC after correcting the installation

Record when it returns and which connections were checked. A persistent message requires diagnosis; do not repeatedly swap the hoses or apply this meaning to a single-inlet Whirlpool.

The check ends with correct, watertight connections, not just with HC disappearing.
