When to Use Steam or Refresh in the Washer

A steam option can accompany washing, while a refresh cycle has a different purpose and may work without detergent. The model description determines what it actually does.

Match the function to the condition of the garment

A lightly worn garment with wrinkles or a slight odor does not have the same need as clothes with built-up sweat, stains, or contamination. Refresh should not be used to hide dirt that requires washing.

Read whether the function includes wash and rinse water or whether it treats a dry load to freshen it. Confirm which fabrics it supports, the maximum load, and whether products are allowed. Adding detergent to a cycle that does not call for it can leave residue behind.

Preparation and follow-up review

  1. Check the care label, including embellishments, coatings, and heat sensitivity.
  2. Remove from the load any items that need different treatment or do not support the function.
  3. Load the laundry without exceeding the cycle-specific capacity.
  4. When finished, wait for the authorized opening and remove the garments as the manual instructs.

If wrinkles are still present, review load and water extraction. If odor returns when you wear the clothes, investigate its causes before repeating refresh cycles.

Steam does not mean sterilization. Any goal of allergen reduction or disinfection requires checking the documented hygienic process and its scope.
