A backpack or bag is machine-washable only when the manufacturer and the gear itself authorize the entire item. Canvas or polyester do not, by themselves, tell you anything about frames, coatings, or leather parts.
Empty and inspect every compartment
Open pockets and remove everything inside, including small items that can get caught behind the lining. Check the label, seams, padding, and coated areas. A removable frame should be taken out only as designed; do not disassemble permanent components.
Authorization for a removable cover does not mean the backpack body can be washed. If there is a waterproof layer, also check the washer restrictions for that type of item.
Avoid snags without creating a sealed bundle
- Remove loose dirt and pre-treat stains as the label directs.
- Secure or protect straps and fasteners using the methods provided; do not make improvised knots.
- If a protective bag is allowed, leave room for water circulation.
- Use the approved cycle, detergent, and spin setting, within the limit for a single item.
- Dry with the pocket and compartment arrangement allowed by the manufacturer.
Check padding and corners before storing: a dry exterior does not mean all the moisture is gone. Do not add unauthorized heat to dry a thick base faster.
If there is no explicit procedure, use the alternative care instructions instead of trying a delicate cycle. The exclusion of incompatible items is decided before protecting them.
Store the backpack only after checking the compartments and padding; moisture can remain where it is not visible from the outside.
