When Can Sneakers Be Washed in the Washing Machine

Machine-wash sneakers only if both the footwear manufacturer and the appliance manual allow it. Being made of fabric or having a delicate cycle does not guarantee that adhesives, reinforcements, and finishes will hold up.

Decide based on the entire shoe

Check the sneaker model and its instructions. Leather, trim, rigid structures, and glued parts may rule out soaking or agitation. Trainers, athletic shoes, and sneakers are regional names; they do not describe a shared compatibility.

Also check the appliance. If it forbids shoes or rigid items, a washable shoe label does not override that exclusion.

Prepare an approved pair

  1. Remove mud and loose debris as directed, without loading the washer with a sediment-covered sole.
  2. Separate laces or insoles only if the manufacturer says to, and check their care instructions separately.
  3. Use the approved protection and arrangement. Do not improvise with towels or weights to cushion impacts.
  4. Measure the compatible product and select the cycle specified by both sets of instructions.
  5. Remove them and dry without unauthorized heat; do not assume washing means they can go in the dryer.

When to stop the attempt

If the load bangs around or is not distributed evenly, use the safe pause and check whether it is allowed before trying again. A bag may hold items when intended, but it does not protect against every impact or chemical damage.

If instructions are missing, contact the manufacturer and use the alternative care method provided. Do not test washing to find out whether the glue will hold.

Finish care with the drying method approved for the footwear. A washing instruction does not allow you to add heat for convenience.
