A portable machine needs cleaning that includes the connections you handle and any moisture left behind when you store it. Check whether it is automatic and hooked up to the faucet, or filled by hand: they do not necessarily require the same maintenance.
Check the system before rinsing
Identify the inlet, drain, and any filters present. A manual-fill unit may not have a heater, while an automatic portable machine controls the water level on its own. Do not add water to an automatic unit to speed up filling, and do not exceed the limits of a manual one.
The Whirlpool W11254174A manual distinguishes portable installation and machine care, and includes a specific cleaning cycle. It is an example of why portable does not necessarily mean an appliance without self-cleaning.
After using it
- Remove all laundry and complete draining with the system specified.
- With the mechanisms stopped and the power disconnected for manual cleaning, remove residue from the tub, rim, and approved sensors.
- Wipe the accessible surfaces with a cloth; avoid getting the controls or cord wet. Do not assume a small housing can be submerged.
- If you are going to disconnect hoses, shut off the supply and release the pressure according to the coupling procedure. Have a container ready for any trapped water.
- Before storing it, dry the accessible parts and place the connections and cord without forced bends or damp ends on electrical parts.
Periodic cleaning and storage
Run the empty maintenance cycle for the model. If there is no dedicated program, see alternatives when self-cleaning is unavailable. Do not calculate a fraction of the dose by comparing it with a full-size washer: the application depends on the cleaner and the appliance.
Let it dry before closing a cover or putting it in a closet. For weeks of nonuse, follow storage during inactivity. If it has two tubs, also complete separate washing and spinning cleaning.
When reconnecting it, check the connections you handle often and watch for drips. Portable does not mean immune to water on the outside.
