F16 on Miele is related to too much detergent or additives. The check should include the cycle and any product carried along with the laundry.
Also check stain removers
The manufacturer documentation covers excessive additives, an unsuitable cycle, and too much foam from overdosing. Do not count only what was poured into the drawer: heavy pretreatment also goes in with the garments.
Compare the amount used with the packaging guidance based on soil level and water hardness. Adjust for the actual load and concentration. If you use automatic dosing, make sure you have not also added a full manual dose out of habit.
Link the warning to a specific combination
Note the cycle, fabric type, detergent, and additives used. If it appears only with one treated item or after switching products, that record lets you correct the wash without blaming a sensor.
Follow the cycle recovery steps in the manual; do not add homemade defoamers or cleaning-agent mixtures.Dosing based on load and soil levelhelps fine-tune the setting. If F16 returns after correcting the conditions or if there is also retained water, contact support and report both details.
Correcting an excessive dose requires considering any residue that may remain on the laundry before repeating the wash.
