The spin tub on a semi-automatic washer is not spinning

If only the spin tub fails, check its latch, timer control, laundry distribution, and drainage. The wash function may still work because it uses a different path.

Check the spin-cycle setup

Stop and unplug the machine before repositioning laundry. Make sure no garment is left outside the basket and install the inner loading lid if your model requires it. Close the outer lid properly and use the control as described in the manual.

Confirm that water can drain out. If it remains trapped, check the drainage on the semi-automatic washer before blaming the motor.

What behavior to note

  • There is no response when the timer is turned on.
  • You hear a hum, but the basket does not start moving.
  • It starts weakly or stops with a permitted load.
  • There is rubbing or signs of a garment outside the basket.

The brake, transmission, the capacitor, if present and the motor require specific testing. The hum does not confirm which one is failing.

If it does not stop as it should

A basket that does not stop as expected when the lid is opened is a safety issue. Stop using it and request service. Do not bypass the lid switch to improve starting, and do not reach into a moving basket.

Do not help the basket spin by hand while power is connected; it should start with the safety guards operating.
