The control knob on a semiautomatic washer does not turn or only turns one way

In a semiautomatic washer, pauses and direction changes depend on the timer and the design. A lack of movement or a new imbalance should be compared with that sequence, not with another washing machine.

Check the load and visible condition

With the appliance stopped and unplugged, check whether a garment or object is blocking the accessible area of the tub. Do not pry under the control knob or force it to free it. Respect the load and level indicated for washing.

If the timer knob stopped advancing or does not transmit the setting, record that behavior without turning it beyond its limits.

What guides the inspection

Indicate whether it does not act in either direction, whether the intensity changes, or whether it only fails after a certain time. Operation in only one direction can be related to different components; it does not automatically prove that the capacitor is faulty.

The control knob and its mounting must transmit the movement received by the shaft. When the movement does not reach it, you will need to evaluate the belt if it has one, the motor and the timer according to the diagram.

Limits of home troubleshooting

Do not inspect the motor with a panel removed and power applied, and do not swap wires to reverse the direction. Comparison of contacts and actuation should be done by qualified personnel with the proper documentation.

Describe whether the fault affects direction, starting, or moving force; these are different data points even if the laundry does not get washed.
