How to Level a Washer and Secure Its Feet

Leveling requires the intended supports to sit properly and the appliance to be oriented according to its manual. Adjusting the feet does not make up for an unsuitable floor or for transport locks that have not been removed.

Prepare the adjustment

Before moving or adjusting, isolate the appliance according to the procedure and leave slack in the connections. Confirm transport locks removed and suitable floor. Do not put your hands under a tilted machine without secure support or use the door or drawer to lift it.

Check and adjust

  1. Place the appliance in the intended position and make sure it does not touch furniture or pipes.
  2. Check the feet for proper contact using the method in the manual; a wobble in the cabinet may mean one foot is not seated properly.
  3. Check level side to side and front to back on the specified surface.
  4. Adjust only the adjustable feet, within the intended limits and using the intended tools.
  5. Lock the jam nuts if there are any, then check contact and level again, because locking can change the adjustment.

Some designs have self-leveling rear feet; do not handle them like a manual threaded foot without checking the procedure. Do not deliberately tilt the appliance to help drainage or improvise shims.

Verification after installation

Check that the hoses were not bent when positioning the unit and follow the specified test. Observe from outside; do not adjust the feet while parts are moving.

If knocking or movement continues, stop any tests that are causing violent motion and use diagnostics. Stability also depends on the suspension and load distribution.

Check the seating again after securing the feet and after any move, before attributing vibration to the cycle.
