First distinguish between a door that does not fit and one that closes but is not recognized by the control. A mechanical click does not confirm that the electrical safety device is working.
If it does not fit physically
With the machine stopped and isolated, remove any clothing that intrudes into the closing area. Check the latch, handle, hinge, and housing without inserting tools. A dropped door or a broken part requires repairing the mechanism; do not force it harder.
If the hinge or handle has visible play, avoid adjusting the latch to hide it. Also do not hold down a lid with weight or tape.
If it fits but the program does not start
Check which indicator is shown and at what stage that model locks. Some lids do not lock immediately when turned on. Check the start command and the conditions for program startup according to the manual.
If the closing warning remains with the door correctly aligned, the diagnosis must separate the latch, wiring, safety device and control. An intermittent contact cannot be identified by the sound of the mechanism alone.
What must not be used as proof
Do not bridge terminals, bring magnets near to fool sensors, or hold the closing action manually during the cycle. Functional testing is done with the appliance assembled and its guards restored, using the intended procedure.
Report to service the difference between “does not fit” and “fits but says door open”; avoid replacing the lock before checking alignment.
