Inspecting the lock must separate latch engagement, recognition, and locking or release. A click or a continuity reading does not verify all of those functions.
Rule out conditions that keep the lock engaged
If the door will not open, first check the water, temperature, and program status. If it does not lock or is not recognized, alignment, the latch, and the panel signals matter.
A damaged handle or hinge can prevent a correct electrical device from receiving the expected position. The wiring and control system are also part of the diagnosis.
Identification and replacement
A lid switch, a thermal lock, and an electronic door lock do not necessarily share terminals or operation. The part number and procedure must match the platform.
The Electrolux lock replacement example shows specific positioning elements that must be restored. Its connections or torque values do not transfer to other mechanisms.
The job requires the appliance to be unplugged, safe access, and preservation of related connectors and actuators. After closing the panels, verify the expected operating sequence: recognition, locking, and release under the allowed conditions.
Always keep the protection in place
Do not use jumpers, magnets, or power to the lock outside the machine. The locking function protects against water, temperature, or movement according to the design.
The appliance must not be put back into service with a simulated lock, even if it manages to start the program.
