Install a washing machine in a cabinet or under a countertop

The cabinet must allow for the mounting intended by the manufacturer and permit use and maintenance. If the appliance physically fits, that does not authorize removing its top, hiding connections, or reducing clearances.

Confirm the installation type

A built-in unit includes provisions for a cabinet panel and hinges. A freestanding machine can only be installed under a countertop under the stated conditions. Removing a cover requires permission and the intended accessories, where available.

Check the opening before sliding the machine in

  1. Match dimensions and openings with the built-in installation plan.
  2. Check the baseboard, hinges, and front panel: they must open without striking or pressing against the appliance.
  3. Allow for the specified clearances and ventilation, without copying the vents from another model.
  4. Route cables and hoses without pinching or strain when the installation is closed up.
  5. Keep access to the faucet, shutoff, and service points, as well as an exit path for removing the unit.

As you push it back, make sure a fitting does not end up against the wall. The detergent drawer and accessible filter need their own clearance, which can interfere with a cabinet door.

If it includes drying

The washer-dryer's thermal system may impose different environmental and maintenance requirements. A closed door or insufficient ventilation can make the installation noncompliant even if washing seems to work.

Cabinet preparation and any new connections must match the plan and the appropriate installer. The placement guide helps verify full access before fastening the cabinet in place.

Test the openings and service access before permanently closing up the cabinetry.
