Samsung Self Clean, Pure Cycle, and Eco Drum Clean: correct use

Self Clean, Pure Cycle, and Drum Clean refer to interior cleaning functions on different Samsung washers. Select the one your manual specifies and check whether it is meant to run without cleaner: the conditions vary by model family and market.

The trade name alone is not enough to transfer instructions

Also look for Eco Drum Clean or Drum Clean+ if they appear on the control panel. In its U.S. guide for Self Clean and Pure Cycle, Samsung states that normal operation does not require a cleaner. The Australian guide for Drum Clean and Tub Clean prohibits adding detergents or cleaning agents to the functions it describes. An exceptional odor-treatment instruction should not be carried over to a program that forbids them.

Use sequence

  1. Identify the model, market, and exact function name.
  2. Empty the machine and remove any visible items. Do not leave clothes in it just to run the cycle.
  3. Check the setup: any required manual cleaning beforehand and product conditions, if applicable.
  4. Close the door or lid and select the function using the dial, button, or menu described in the manual.
  5. Start it and let it finish. Once it unlocks and cools down, remove visible residue in the approved way and complete the rinse if instructed.

Reminder and residue afterward

The reminder calls for maintenance according to the design; it does not imply a fault diagnosis. Confirm the meaning of the alert and do not confuse it with a message that prevents a cycle from continuing.

If residue appears after cleaning, compare the amount after the procedure. Do not add chemicals to dissolve it without identifying what it is. If visible contamination persists, check mold and damp deposits along with the gasket and the detergent drawer.

The duration, the count that triggers the alert, and the selection method are not the same on all Samsung models. Use the data in your manual when you need to schedule maintenance.

A function that normally works with water only should remain that way unless the manufacturer gives a specific and applicable instruction.
