Washing machine leaking water from underneath

A visible leak under the washing machine does not directly identify the pump, tub, or hose. First check whether the water is coming from the front, an external connection, or a filter that was recently opened.

Link the water to the cycle

Stop the appliance and shut off the supply if there is an active leak. Cut the power from a dry spot; do not kneel in the puddle or reach under a plugged-in machine.

When it appearedWhat detail to note
When fillingIf the dispenser, an inlet, or the front gets wet first
During the wash movementIf it matches leveling, load, suds, or rubbing
When drainingIf an external hose overflows or it appears near the pump access
After cleaning the filterHow the cap was seated and whether the drip starts around its edge

What can be checked from the outside

Without moving or tilting the appliance, look for water marks running down from the door or dispenser. If the source is the filter cap, follow its specific check after draining safely.

When there is no visible source, hoses, the pump assembly and other seals must be inspected according to the identified path. A leak associated with drum supports may require checking bearings and the seal.

Dark liquid can mix with dirt from the floor or the appliance. Its color does not confirm a damaged transmission case.

Report the timing and the first damp spot you noticed; do not remove panels to reproduce an active leak.
