A barrier washer allows loading and unloading from separate zones. That physical separation must be integrated with cycle control and the movement of people, carts, and textiles.
Path through the barrier
Loading enters from the side designated for soiled laundry. After the approved process, unloading takes place on the clean side, with doors and drum positioning depending on the design. Interlocks manage access and states to prevent incompatible openings.
The Electrolux Professional Line 6000 barrier family documents physical separation between zones and door control functions. Specific options, such as interfaces or automation, vary by variant.
Separation does not prove disinfection
A wall between entrances does not prove that a textile has received sufficient chemical or thermal exposure. That result requires a validated procedure for the load and the environment, with the planned controls. It also does not imply sterility.
What happens afterward matters: a cart or a person moving from the dirty area to the clean one can reintroduce contamination. The barrier must be evaluated together with organization, ventilation when applicable, surface cleaning, and process records.
What should be defined before operation
The installation must specify how it connects with the building separation, service access, door operation, and utilities. Process owners must determine which loads are accepted and how each cycle is verified.
Compared with a single-entry dryer, the spatial flow changes. A household guide does not make it possible to set times, temperatures, or chemicals for hospital textiles, cleanrooms, or protective equipment.
Evaluate the integrity of the barrier, the process result, and how the laundry is handled on exit separately.
