On the Toshiba AW-E900LM, E2-1 prompts you to check for an open lid, and E2-3 for the latch or lock. Both are shown with an alternating second part that must be preserved.
The official top-load manual distinguishes these states in its table on page 18. It does not interpret a standalone E2 from other Toshiba models.
Act on the indicated state
For E2-1, check that the lid is fully closed. If you need to move clothing out of the way, wait until the motion stops before reaching into the drum.
For E2-3, stop and power off the unit according to the manual before checking for visible obstructions in the latch. A lid that is lowered may not be fully engaged or confirmed. Remove only clothing or objects you can reach, without disassembling the mechanism.
Do not use magnets or jumpers to simulate a closed lid. If it does not latch normally, is damaged, or the message repeats, stop trying to start it and request service. Restarting depends on the exact code; do not replace the locking instructions by repeatedly closing the lid.
Photograph both parts of the sequence; this makes it possible to distinguish E2-1 from E2-3 even though the first screen group is identical.
