Bosch E18 Error: Clogged Filter or Drain

The Bosch guide for E18 advises checking the filter, accessible pump, and drain hose. If water is still inside, prepare to drain it before removing any cap.

External checks

The drainage procedure in the manufacturer documentation starts with draining. Check whether the hose was kinked when the washer was installed or whether the household siphon is clogged. Compare the installation with the E-Nr. manual.

Opening the filter with cold, controlled water

  1. Turn off and unplug the appliance safely. Wait for the wash water to cool.
  2. Prepare a container and use the emergency tube or the draining method specified in the manual.
  3. Do not remove the plug completely while water is flowing; stop the flow to empty the container.
  4. Once empty, clean any accessible debris, threads, and seat; close it properly again.

The guide to drain filter cleaning provides more detail on preparation. If the plug does not turn normally, do not force it with a tool.

If the filter and accessible outlet are clear but E18 continues, request service. Do not assume the problem is a failed pump without diagnosis, and do not run repeated cycles with water still inside.

Check that the filter is sealed properly before considering the cleaning finished.
