Descale the washing machine without damaging its components

Descale when the water conditions, buildup, and the model instructions justify that treatment. Use a compatible product and follow its full procedure; do not treat every white residue as limescale.

Before choosing a descaler

Gather the data on water hardness, the maintenance history, and what you observe. A greasy film or detergent residue may require a different cleaning. Bosch distinguishes mineral descaler from greasy residue cleaner and asks that you follow the instructions on each container.

If the reason for the inquiry is that the machine does not heat or is failing, do not use descaling as a resistance diagnosis. Its surface cannot be fully inspected from the drum.

Preparation and application

  1. Check that the appliance accepts the product for its type of machine and materials. Review the restrictions in the manual and on the label.
  2. Empty the washing machine and remove visible residues that are not part of the buildup. Make sure no other product remains in the circuit.
  3. Apply the indicated amount in the intended place. Do not assume the descaler goes in the detergent drawer.
  4. Run the approved program and let all of its phases finish.
  5. Carry out the rinses required by the treatment before washing clothes again.

Do not mix descaler with bleach or try to boost it with household acids. If another substance has been applied or there is uncertainty about residues, consult product safety before starting.

Check the result without opening the machine

Observe the accessible surfaces and whether any residue remains that should be removed. Do not conclude from its appearance that the entire heating element is free of deposits. If the buildup persists, check whether the manufacturer allows another application; do not increase the concentration or temperature.

If the buildup returns, review water treatment and prevention. The corrective frequency should follow the conditions of the appliance and the water supply, without turning one brand’s interval into a general rule.

A completed descaling only resolves the authorized treatment; it does not certify the internal condition of every component or guarantee a specific performance recovery.
